Well time for another great idea straight out of the depths of Omuletzu's skull
Okay get this :
We build a program that will include all the cheats available on our database(a kind of dlh, but only for old games!).Perhaps we could go beyond that, and include many other cheats for old games, that aren't even on our database.I mean we are in old games bussiness, why not build a software wich will enable the user to browse through our cheatbase( ) offline.Better yet we could have links to our games, something like
(just is just an example, with fictive cheats):
Dune 2
see all - see the whole map
give me money - gives 500 credits
........ and so on ......
And at the bottom a link:
Want the game? Get it here (http://www.abandonia.com)

And the program would have an auto-update function, wich would keep you up to date... So how about it? In regards to the programming i must say that i can be of little assistance, because i only know a little VB(building calculators, and simple things like that...).Anyway if the idea is to be applied, i have some tutorials, and i could help in the long period...So how about it??

I think there are already billions of cheatbases on- and off-line!

About tutorials, you can add them with the rest of the cheats above review of the game! :ok:
So as you can see we have cheatbase, but it's bad side is that it is on-line!

Omuletzu
05-11-2004, 03:26 PM
No you didn't understand me: i don't want a cheatbase on every game available, i want a cheatbase only about old games that are/are not on abandonia. Those that are on abandonia could have a link, below the cheat, to download it.

Unknown Hero
05-11-2004, 03:30 PM
Yes, but I have cheatbase for old and for new games, so what's the big difference - just write name of the game, and the cheat will show up!

Omuletzu
05-11-2004, 03:41 PM
Right we'll i'm glad to hear your opinion... anybody else got one??

Yes; I don't like cheats. Thus, no reason for me to even be slightly interested.

I don't like cheats, but sometimes, cheats and walkthroughts do the job! :ok:

Omuletzu
05-11-2004, 03:57 PM
Okay nobody likes cheats, but that's not the point of the software!!
The point is promoting the site, by adding links to the cheats...

And i feel that by making a nice(and retro) interface, and having a rich(but not necessarily large) cheatbase, we can beat every other program of the gendre. But as i said the point of the software isn't necessarily providing cheats, but providing cheats altogether with links to the actual game!!Thus drawing people to abandonia.... If we are going to beat HotU we need somekind of booster, and these kind of innovative ideas could do the trick(the crowd stands up and begins to applaud)

Well, whatever floats your boat...

But I am still against the idea. Only for the principle...

I think it would be good because it can be hard to find a good selection of cheats for old games, Also, it will lead new people to the site, which is always nice.

Yes but it will be cheaters, CHEATERS! :Titan:

uhhum uhhum * clears throat *

Omeletzu, it's a nice idea and indeed it would advertise the site but there goes a lot of development time to create a program that works flawlessly and has good content. I'd suggest you start creating the program, the further you develop it the more people who will be eager to assist you...

Okay i'll start browsing through the tutorials, and i will begin work on it... i hope :w00t: No i'm just kidding i really want to do this so i'll take seriously, and i will do as much as i can :)

Well, savegame cracks would be good... like for Bloodnet. Little tools that let you find your savegame and change stats to a different value... I guess that'd be useful.

Omuletzu, if you need any help finding cheats, tutorials and walkthroughs I have loads of them! Just ask! :ok:

Hey, I like the idea very much!!. I never cheat when I play games, but I once in a while use a walkthrough, these should be supplied by the program too. :ok:

If you need any guidance, I am working as an C# and VB.NET software developer. I could probably help you with some things. :D

Thanks for the offer! Right now if i have any questions, i just bug my brother with them(he's a software producer, also specialised in c and Vb.net :ok: )

Oh and now that you mentioned it, i think that i will contact you these days, just to show you the first form(the startup window) :)

Cheers  :ok:

Good idea I'm not a good adventure gamer of old games so It is good idea to find the wlktrough of you favorite dos game. But for the cheats :not_ok: And the second one who will build the software if you can it will be great altough this isn't just like that.

Omuletzu
09-11-2004, 03:55 PM
Who's the second one? As i understand it nobody has offered to help me so far(except for aaberg, but his help consists only of advices)

:ranting: :ranting: :not_ok:

I can make savegame cracking tools, but need to get back into the coding part of it first :ok:

Omuletzu
09-11-2004, 04:24 PM
My intention is to build a program wich will do this for a game(wich we shall call X):
Game: X
Cheats: -cheat list-
Trailers: -if available-
Other misc cheats: -misc cheats list-
Savegame editors: -Gamewizzard and other programs specialised in this operation-
Other documents:(manuals, maps, walkthroughsm, and so on)

So my intention is to list cheats in the main program, and to incorporate into the program premade software, specialised in modifying savegames(of course with the agreement of the developer), trailers, and so on.
So there you go this is my plan.I await suggestions in this thread!

Kon-Tiki

Count me in for the savegame cracking. Was already planning on making those anyways, when I got my knowledge 'bout coding the stuff I found with my hex editor, so count me in for that one.

Okay now we're rolling. You got my spirits up so i'm going to work on it right now.
If everything checks out, i'll be sending the start-up form to aaberg later today. In fact i might upload it on the server somehow, so all the ppl can see it, and share their impressions!

What language will you use? If you use a .NET language, I could do other than just giving you adviceses, I could do some programming for you. If you use VB6, I cannot help you that easily, I can't remember much of that language (I never liked VB6, so I never used it much. I used C++ instead).

I can give you advice, year sure. But my advice will probably not be the best in the world. As I said, I'm not a master in VB6 programming. If you have a question, just come with it, I will answer if I can.

Don't use C++, it is a very hard language to learn, and it is very hard to develop windows style programs. I think you should use C# or VB.NET, you can get a free IDE for developing in these languages from this link (http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/). If you want to learn C#, take a look on this website (http://www.devx.com/SummitDays/Article/10902).

The reason why I used C++, is that I have an education as an electronic engineer, and C++ is a very good language to program small microcontrollers. :max:

I think that there should be a link in a game that says "cheats", but which actually makes the game impossible... just for all you cheaters who try and take the easy way out LOL
