I used to play as a half-elf Ranger, and I kicked some major behind. However, my friends and I played really strict, and we made the rule that if our character died, we lost it (sort of like a Hardcore character in Diablo II). Well, I was really really deadly in my dexterity, and I never really put much emphasis into magic. My party and I were sent on a quest to fetch this wizard's magic broom which has been stolen. Well, I was the one to pick it up when we found it, but my magic level wasn't high enough, and it beat me to death. I was so shamed...that, and I lost my Bow of the Stars+10, and it really pissed me off :bleh:

I have been playing for several years. Started with 2nd edition (AD&D) and now 3rd edition. Mostly as player, occasionally as DM.
If you could find the DMG (Dungeon Master's Guide) that might be useful. The most 'common' creatures such as skeletons, goblins and the like can be found in Monter Manual I. Monster Manual II contains really new creatures, which are less common. When you DM for the first time, don't give too much freedom to the characters. Start with a fairly simple linear adventure. Also, start with low level characters. |
