Default What is Tandy?

Could someone tell me what actually Tandy was? I mean in many old games (around 1985-1990) you can choose as sound or graphics the option Tandy, along with CGA, EGA and VGA / MCGA for graphics... What is (was actually) that? Some kind of computer during that time?

I think tandy was a brand of computer. It must have needed its own drivers or something. I don't know, I'ts just a little before my time.

It was a leading computer series called Tandy 1000 with 16 colors and 3 voice sounds. Tandy graphics which were compatible with most pc games. From 1986 until 1991 they were considered as the best graphics (much better than common IBM compatible PC's) until VGA and soundblaster took over, rendering Tandy obsolete. It was a bit better than EGA.....
However IBM compatible pc's could run games on Tandy graphics but the result is not the expected one...it looked like CGA or Hercules heehehhehe all purple

Not only computers, I believe they also had printers, calculators and such in their productline.

TGA, a graphic card, is also from Tandy (Tandy Graphics Adapter). Also .tga, an older graphics-format, has something to do with Tandy, too, I believe.

Indeed Tandy was a quite well-performing graphics card. But as far as I know has TGA nothing to do with Tandy. TGA is from Truevision. Also called Targa Graphic or so.
