I really don't recommend IE7. I had it for a few days, and I hated it. It is very different to IE6, and all the nice, clear menu buttons at the top were gone. It also conflicts with other programmes, so they will not work. And it hogs a lot of memory. :wallbash:

I'd stick with IE6 if I were you. k:

IE 7 does not use mch more ram on my pc on the fourms hompage IE uses 26MB and FF with a whole lot of extentions uses 52MB but thats with a whole lot of extras running in it including 5-6 extentions and all IE is running is a google toolbar so fire fox is more efficent with RAM.

Now you know what Windows Vista will be like... <_<

@gregor: Though that old person is used to the IE - does he really use features of it? Doesn't he just need the adress-bar where the URL is put in and a program to display internet content?
Then you could really give him Opera. I'm not quite certain where the bookmarks are kept in Opera, but that shouldn't be much of a problem.

yah i think he uses it for browsing mainly. Well i need to see if they have Opera in Slovenian and also if he got that ram increased now. I htink explorer is not such a big problem now, but other stuff he has installed and is running constantly in background like Skype, antivirus programe (especially problematic), various porgrames to watch pictures (Picassa or whatever that is), then he has video camera installed and also a couple of unidentified stuff. S&D spybot didnt' find much problems, but when i installed tuneup utilities to him it found large number of problems. and correctred them and optimised the system. it works better now. especially when we switched off the antivirus programe that had to check everyfile before it got opened. and it took it's time....

Maybe you change the AV-program as well? Into a more comfortable one?

nah viruses are so old school. the programme is actually a good one (it's original). i just dont' get it's settings. nowadays he should worry more about worms and other stuff comming through net. scans are needed only form time to time. no need to keep on scanning the disk while you work. i unpluged my antivir. i use only firewall. scanned a couple of times found nothing.

just press the 'alt' key and the menu's reappear , seriously though I personally have never had problems with ie7 even the beta's on any of my computers, also if you are gonna stay using ie then that is where the support will be for from ms.

I also really like the quick serach box as it makes it easy to search thru ebay, amazon then google with just a few clicks also the phishing filer apeals to my paranoid side . also am just too lazy to change to firefox also as I have been using ie for that long and have never had a reason to force me to change.

there are a few odd issues with some websites but ie 7 gains ground those websites will either have to get fixed or loose traffic so I wouldn't really class it as much of an issue.

my ie7 is using 42,000 k, i'm not to sure how that compares to ie6 but would imagine that would really be much change.

It's a matter of personal opinion.
The three major browsers at the moments are IE, Firefox, and Opera.
There's no harm in installing all three of them and try them for a while.

If you're looking for speed then you should choose opera, since it's the fastest.

2. In microsoft outlook there is an option that enables you to request confirmation of email delivery as well as if email was read (for each individual email). Is there an option for that in Firebird as well? and where is it?[/b]
I think you mean thunderbird, not firebird (firebird was firefox's old name, it's also a database)
And if I remember correctly, there is such an option.
