I still don't understand what this is. Even WITH the article being read. How are a bunch of bands going to save 30,000 people, short of giving all their money to them every day?

its a bit hypocritical. all these rich musicians play for free for one day. oooo what a sacrifice for them. and by wiping the slate clean for all these countrys doesnt that put them back in credit with the world bank. what are the odds that they wont just run up another huge debt. i have heard some nasty storys about previos aid efforts being hijacked by the local militias. food and medicines being taken by the army.
im not saying we shouldent help those less fortunate than ourselfs. but just throwing money at these goverments hasnt helped before.

Well, there has to be more than that being born every day, otherwise the world population couldn't be increasing.

The idea of the concert was influence, not a begathon as is normal. Anyway, they're not just trying to convince the G8 leaders to do something about debt but also aid and how to make sure that the aid gets through to the people (instead of to the corrupt government, as has been said).

Live8 sucks balls , nice to know that you have to have huge concerts around the world
as a bribe for people to pay up... Besides is it all this africa rubbish again? give it
3 years and africa will be begging again. Why not get rid of mugabe, but then ofcause
we wont cause africa doesnt have oil and doesnt affect any other nations.

p.s I was at the cinema yesterday, africa came up on the adverts
and people boo'd

Well this just reminds me:

If you give a starving man a fish - he won't be hungry that evening, but will be starving the very next day.
If you teach this man how to catch his own fish - he'll never go hungry again.

This is the case with Africa. If they really wanted to help Africa they'd try to make it more developed. But then again - they could not exploit it any more.

Currently all the cheap labour is in Asia - but sooner or later it will move to Africa - unless they get developed soon.
If Africa trully develops it's full potential then the first world won't be able to exploit it.

So they are deliberatly giving them some fishes instead of teaching them how to fish. They don't want Africa to starve to death, but they don't want it to be a stable developed continent either.

Same thing happened with the tsunami we chucked loads and loads of money at it
and people complained Stop giving us money... give us houses, help build our boats
we want to work for ourselves not handouts.

This is why africa keeps failing, sure help africa out of debt but its like a poker player
goes in debt.. give him money are you sure he wont use that to play poker again

Yes it does, and huge deposits of gold, silver, copper and aluminium.

EDIT: Diamonds and other gems too, can't forget them.
