I'm in need of one that uses little RAM. I've tried VLC but I have issues with it. The quality on it is terrible and it uses 10-12mb of RAM. Someone told me it used less than 2mb but he was wrong. So, got any media players (or even just music) that use under 10mb of RAM?

Why are tou so concerned about RAM usage?
As long as it's available, programs should use it, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

on my system (FreeBSD) mplayer uses ~80MB of RAM playing Dr. Strangelove, which is all the free RAM there is.

You should be concerned about CPU Usage.

Carpet Smoker is right it's all in the cpu usage. You should try and get one that uses a maximum of 40 percent but you will be able to get way less for but only once the programs loaded then it wont need much to play the music I don't think.

Winamp 2.91 works well even on low RAM. At least from my experience.

one of first first winamps worked well on WIN95 with 32MB ram and 486/80Mhz processor.

I had Winamp 2.81 working on 486 DX4/100 with 24 Meg of RAM. Worked well, but playing high-bitrate Mp3's wasn't quite smooth.

I know that WinAmp is able to replay video files, but would you really recommend it?

Or is this just about audio? Cause I only use Winamp for audio-files...

Generally speaking, it's not the ideal for video playback, but if you're looking for a low-spec player then it will do in a pinch.
It has some issues with some of the newer video codecs, but these require a good amount of CPU power and RAM memory anyway so I don't think that's what Duss.T intends to use his player for.

Using Winamp 2.76.. had i've been using that for many years on many platforms.
Right now it's playing a 3 hr mp3-file (250 MB) and uses 7,6 MB ram.

As for video; Look at it like this: The lower RAM-usage, the higher CPU-load it will carry, and it usualy varries depending on that file you'r playing, as xvid will take alot more CPU-power to decode then a RAW-video-file that on the other hand will need a HUGE buffert in the RAM.

Either you put strain on either thing.
