Default Why Do So Many Popular TV Shows Get The Boot?

I was talking to Wendy about this awhile ago, but it's really starting to get to me. I'm a big Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Fan, and already 3 of my all time fav. shows have been cancelled, even when they have a HUGE following. The shows I'm speaking about are Farscape, Angel, and Firefly. Now I do realize that at least for Farscape and Firefly they're making them into mini-series or movies, and I'm willing to bet Angel will soon follow. What I don't get is why big execs at Fox or Sci Fi feel the need to kill a show that brings in a lot of their money...Sometimes the Human mind just baffles me. So speak up if you feel the same way, or have something to say about this!

I know what you mean, "The Simpsons" recently stopped being shown on English TV because the BBC couldn't afford to show it anymore, even though it got the highest rarings of ANY shows on TV.

It's because those shows cost about 8 million dollars per episode. There is talk of Farscape getting a fith season after the miniseries ends.

OMG!! If farscape gets a fifth season, I will be sooooo happy. Oh, Puffin, yea Angel is the same guy from Buffy. It was his own series after he left Buffy. It actually was really good!

I guess it depends on who supports these series and how long. As soon as something changes, there's no support for them anymore and - voila! Businnes "weather", I would say...
I watched only StarGate series so far, I'm just afraid of the moment they stop sometimes (and they will, as all other series, too).

Isn't Stargate in its sixth season or something by now? I don't think you can complain about a series ending after a run like that. Most series, even the successful ones, can only manage four.

Yes, it's one of the longest series now, although the Star Trek series were longer than this one, I guess (count them all together - Next Generation, Spaceship Vojager and a pair more).

All the Star Trek series have lasted seven seasons (TNG, DS9 and Voyager). The Origional Series of Star Trek lasted just three and a half seasons (it got cancelled) and Enterprise is now getting its fourth season which in all likelyhood will be its last. TNG and DS9 and Voyager were not cancelled because of bad ratings but it was decided to let other shows take up the Star Trek banner to prevent saturation of the market.
