Plus it's a Windows game, not DOS, as well as being a bit big atm. SMAC isn't too hard to find, but the add-on SMAX is very difficult to get in the shops (and in fact is hosted on HotU).

But isn't there the "only original games" thing as well? I mean, a ripped version would hardly be the original game, would it?
yes that too but since i saw that CIV 2 was not original i.e. without movies...

Also i think this version is copy of original only without movies. because it has all sounds.

Hmm, I always thought that the ripped versions on the site were ripped by whoever uploaded them to keep the archive at a reasonable size, but those people still own the original versions. I may be wrong about that, though.

Civ 2 is missing music files, and much more. (king files etc.)

It is the same as if you start the game without the CD in the drive.

Although I think a separate SMAC for Windows was eventually released, SMAC was a DOS-based game. I have my original copy. There's no mention of Windows, and it runs from the DOS prompt.

[b] [quote] that's what i have. the version without the CD.

The game is working nromally only it doesne't show animations etc. In beggining it asks you to insert the CD and i just say no and it tells me that i won't see certain things or something like that. after that it works fine. single and multiplayer.

so it is an original.

Like in old civ you can also change all names, credits, races...

the question here is if the game can be actually put on this site. it's 47-48MB large and also quite new. i dont' know if we are allowed to host it.

And it's a windows version.

The only trouble is that if you have the windows version of the game and the add-on, is that once you install the add-on over the game in XP SMAX simply won't start (SMAC clean won't start either but that just takes a little fiddling with an EXE file).

Runs ok for me - there's an XP fix on Firaxis' website IIRC.
