Cool Favourite Voice Actors

Dear Abandonians,

I would like to share one of my oddest passions with you. During my videogame experiences, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to senseless "computer" voices - the HEV Suit Mark IV system soundboard, or the VOX announcer from Half-Life, Shodan from System Shock 2, or the Advisors from Starcraft 1 - they were all a pleasure listening to. Maybe it's the lack of emotions, or the cheesy low-quality voice samples, or a bizarre sexual aberration, whatever it is, it's great and you should experience it as well!

If you know any soundboards like the above, do not hesitate to share!

Half-Life - ''FVOX'' Sounds (H.E.V Mark IV suit voice)

Half Life - ''VOX'' sounds

System Shock 2 - Shodan Quotes

Starcraft 1 - Protoss Advisor

Starcraft 1 - Zerg Advisor

Starcraft 1 - Terran Advisor

Unreal Tournament Original Announcer Sounds

Mortal Kombat 2 - Shao Kahn

Mortal Kombat 3 - Shao Kahn

I'd also like to list a few characters who are, well, not computers but their voice acting still deserves a place among my favourites:

First of all, not sure where Running With Scissors found this guy, but he portrays a lunatic serial killer pretty well:

All Postal Dude Quotes from Postal 1

All Postal Dude Quotes from Postal 2

Not a mainstream game but it features one of the most badass protagonists:

Blood - Caleb Qoutes

A classic sadly forgotten by most people:

Duke Nukem Quotes!

Last but not least the definitive badass of Deus Ex fame:

Deus Ex: JC Denton one liners

Counter-Strike 1.6 Voice Comms

Who were YOUR favourites?

Ooh interesting topic

How about the voice from the bitmap brothers Chaos Engine? I don't know how it sounded on the PC but it sounded great on my Amiga 1200.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqP2EnsQGqM

If you go to 8:42 of this video you can hear how clear it sounded!

He would also read out the power ups you collected:
Food
Special Power
Special Activated
Node Activated
Exit Open
Level Complete
World Complete
Ahh! (He said that when you got the gun upgrade, very strange)
Players Save

I can't remember many more voices from back then, I had a game called silly putty where when you died a voice said "Too bad!" but it wasn't all that remarkable.

Such a rarely touched topic. I think with most gamers being males they only care about visuals (and rarely style, usually just the technical part, like game engine capabilities), threads about voice acting simply don't pop up on the forums.

I really need to go back memory lane on this one.

From the top of my head:
*Kit Harris, playing Kate Archer from the first No One Lives Forever
*entire cast of Z and Z: Steel Soldiers
*HK-47 from both parts of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

...and if you ask for a favorite "computer voice"... Intex network - logging off

Lo Wang from Shadow Warrior had also almost as good quotes as Duke Nukem. Many are hilariously funny Whoops, Lo Wang drop soap

I would also recommend (hard as bone and funny as hell) quotes from Gothic 1, and also Baldur's Gate II ambient sound and NPC speech. However since the first is a game mostly known only in Germany, and the second has (in my opinion) so much better sounding, characteristic speech in German than in English, I guess not many of you would be able to appreciate it. Unfortunately, there're also no quotes from Baldur's Gate II in German on Youtube, it seems. Still, it's quite good in English, too.

Well, thanks for the replies! It IS a rarely touched topic, but worth discussing. I missed someone important, who could be the spiritual predecessor of HK-47: Joey from Beneath a Steel Sky. I couldn't find a qoute compilation, so I might want to do one.

It's still in German, but I got to share this. Here's a good example of how excellent the German speech is in Gothic 1 and 2 - a complete scene from Lord of the Rings completely composed from characteristic speech pieces of the both games. Worth many laughs if you understand German and know Gothic

I was buying my first games 20 years ago, but for some reason I got my favorite X-Wing and TIE Fighter only later, with "enhanced" re-release.

I couldn't expect the surprise waiting for me... the talkie CD release of TIE Fighter has Guy Siner as your briefing officer... that's right, lt Gruber from 'Allo 'Allo! speaking with his best upperclassy Imperial accent! Heck, he didn't even had to change the uniform

An amazing voice actor is Mark Hamil. Any work he does is amazing. He as detective "Mostly" in Gabriel Knight was amazing, and his Ripburger from Full Throttle was... intense!

I'm a bit lazy right now to remember some of truly great voice actors I encounter in my gaming career, but the latest that thrilled me is this guy from Civilization 5.
