There is already another thread for this. I don't make those rules, I follow Kosta and the other admins orders. If the rules would change and say that we allow it, I have no reason to go against it.

As said earlier tough, this is not currently the case.

If there was to be "international forums", I would humbly suggest that this forum is kept as it is already and that several new forums are open, each with a specific language. That would solve a lot of problem before they happen. If not possible, then at least create several sub forums in the Troubleshooting section, each with their specific language.

I would be glad to run and moderate the French troubleshooting forum myself.

I've been moderating another forum until a few weeks ago when issues between the site owner and the tech-guy caused a shutdown.

I've been through non-english threads as well - and I see where EoF's actions came from. Myself, I just went and closed every such thread, telling the poster to post it again - in English.

Online translators are there for a reason. It's not like people could not use them when posting.

Right now, English is the most common first/second language across the globe - which makes it universal by all definitions.

As it is, the question really is whether to hurt minority who cannot write English (or are too lazy to do that), or majority who won't be able to understand non-english posts in most cases. The choice is simple.

Umm yeah online translators, riiiight, you'll again see the same jibberish that NO ONE will understand, not even the person who posted it, now isn't that what you call... spam?

Code:
Przynajmniej ogólne znaczenie tekstu będzie zrozumiałe - a to już więcej niż można powiedzieć o tekście np. po hiszpańsku.

=

At least general meaning of text will be intelligible (apprehended) - but it more already than it is possible to say about text e.g. for (after) spanish.
I think this proves the point quite well. The online translator carried through most of my original text in Polish language, though the grammar is less then perfect.

There've been questions asked in several different languages in the programming forum, but they've always been answered and helped out. Of course, I'm lucky that there're Hungarian and Croatian people on there that can help. I prefer to leave those threads open for a few days to let people that can answer, answer. If there's no answer, I see it better to write a reply to the thread, saying nobody can answer the question and that it might increase his chances if he'd post in English. Still no reason to lock them, IMO.

I beg to differ from what I've saw from some other web translators...

I am able to find simillatieis between quoted text and my language, but I'm not sure which language is. It is Slavic lnaguage.

Just as I said in my first post, I used translator, but in many cases that does not help much. As we are really international forum, it would make sense to me to leave posts in other language open, until someone comes and translates it. I did couple times run online translator on posts in troubleshooting subforum, and posted answers. (can't recall if it was in english or that language)

I guess I don't like strict rules either...

@ Kon-Tiki - COmpletely agree with the way you are running your corner!

@EOF:
I know, I wasn't trying to critisize you - I'm supporting your decision 100% (you simply followed the rules), I'm just trying to use every oportunity I can to strengthen my case - the rules should change. It's been over a year since I first contacted Kosta about it and he said he'd put all the pluses and minuses together and decide. I know something like this would probably call for major changes, but I think it would be worth it!

Maybe if we would have a pinned thread in the troubleshooting forum for every language Abandonia is translated in, where someone could read (in his language) that if he does not speak English, he may contact (explained how) the following individuals: ... ... ... (I think the translation admins should be here)

The admins would then translate the help request and post it.

Bad idea. I'm the one who cleaned the forum and removed all pinned topics except the two remaining, and those two are those which had to stay no matter the cost.

If we were to do that, we would return to the "we have so many stickied topics we can't even see all the new posts in one page" problem. And that would be because there would only be space left for 4-5 topics burried under all the stickied ones.

Furthermore, I really don't see the point. It's common internet knowledge that English is the first language to use here. I don't care if people are coming from the translated site, it's quite obvious if you look only a little around that everyone use English here. If you guys are so concerned about this problem, then I suggest you go directly to the source of the problem and do something on the translated sites so the users know what they are doing when they click on the forum link first of all.
