AVG free edition seems to have fixed many of my problems. Thanks wendy* k:
Combine AVG with Kerio's firewall, and you have a realy steady defence..

I use that, along with Adaware and a physical firewall also and a router with another firewall... hmm... it's amazing that i can surf actualy *L*

---------------

Regarding XP, NEVER try and run it with LESS then 128 MB.. that's Microsofts own recomendations..

Preformace will drop emenzly, so unless you'r using UWSCSI or atleast a SATA as swap-disk... don't...

I have to upgrade my home wirewall to IPCop 1.4, and I just updated routers frimware to the latest. It's nice to have a network at home.

I remember doing tech support in high school, we put OSX on an old 575 Mac. I think it took 20 minutes to boot up.
is 575 a powerpc??? Plus it wouldn't boot if it uses the old SCSI ports. I am just wondering cause it sound suspicias. Can I see a screeny of the model or some specs?

Much better then WinME in any case.

I don't know about that, I ran ME for quite a while before upgrading to XP and when i di, was greatly disappointed. All the security holes, updates, extra configuration changes that had to be made...seems like XP should have stayed in the workshop for another month or two before being released. In any case, ME at least isn't being targetted by major viruses anymore....here's hoping that future versions of windows get smoothed out more before public release
There is a reason for that LOL

Can someone really use that OS?

WinME is really bad product and support for it was really bad.

Win98SE / Win2K was much better choice at the time! [/b][/quote]
Well, I managed to run many games such as Unreal II and serious Sam on the OS. Never had any trouble with viruses except for a boot.ini killer that i got through a bad download.

I must say though that overall it seemed like a stable platform and, like I said, wasn't targetted by free ranging-viruses after XP came out.

I used only 64 MB of ram the first few weeks I had WinXP, but after that period I installed more ram.

It was all running very slowely, but I can give you one golden tip on how to improve speed in such cases (swapping most of the time):

Install a new harddisk (a small one, 1 or 2 gig), and put the pagefile on that harddisk (instead of the harddisk where winXP is installed). It helped me a lot, really! My computer has become much more faster. k:

Wish I still had the pic of the 575 booting. It did work, I can tell you that.

Well, depends on your definition of work. LOL

I can't

Got a laptop, no space inside it for another hdd..
But on one of the other computers we have, I have the windows on a disk of it own. So if Windows crashes, i don't lose my stuff!
