Holy crap!
I spent endless hours playing Autoduel on my Apple IIe waaaaaay back in the day! (I had the color monitor, though!) Man, what a fun game! If I recall, I always made far more money in the casino in Atlantic City than I did in the arena. Some of those courier missions were pretty lucrative, though. Like many, I really wish this game would be updated and re-released.

I remember playing this on my brothers atari when i was 7. This game brings back some happy memories and i highly suggest it to any gamer, as long as you dont mind the outdated graphics, but at an abandonware site you can kinda count on that.

I loved this game on the C64 back in the 80's. It's open endedness is what makes it so re-playable.

What's with the ESA protection? :ranting:

I see you guys talking about the games but because of this ESA issue, I can't download it. Any info on this ESA debacle?

Do they relly need to hold to old games like leech to theid buts.
I think esa protection to 10 year old games is stupid.
Even if there are sold almost nobody buys them.
Well maybe someone does but who.

Does anyone actually have this game? I think it's funny that it's protected but you can't buy it anywhere, from anyone. Origin doesn't exist, and Steve Jackson Games is awesome, but they don't sell this game...

anyway, if anyone's selling a used (or new LOL) version of Autoduel, I'm interested...

I played this game to fruition way back in 1985 on my old commie 64c. This game was the first of it's kind that I had encountered at the time. It was pure rpg with a classic arcade car war feel. Not since this game has there been a similar title. Carmageddon and GTA have come slightly close but nowhere near as involved or entertaining. This truly is a classic and has stood the test of time, btw where has all that time gone?

Roadwar and Roadwar:Europa didn't have the same feel as Auto Duel so I won't compare them past the fact they're both automotive rpg's.

This was one of my favorite games back when I was on an Apple IIc. I used to take a bus to the casino after saving up a little money. If lost my shirt, I would just reload a duped save disk. If you broke the casino bank ($1,000,000) they would kick you out with $666,666.

any idea if there's anything similar to this game (maybe freeware clone of some sort?) that's made more recently?
hasn't seen anything that has the Mad Max style setting to it and the closest thing is Autoduel which in addition to being commercial and undevelopment it's also a MMORPG..:(
The only thing close to this that I've seen is called "Interstate 76" which was made for the Win 95 system. It has a basic story line where you are revenging (is that a word?) the death of your sister in the deserts of Mid-west America circa 1976. You are given basic missions where you drive your car from point A to point B and destroy everything in your path (or avoid getting destroyed by it, whatever the mission says)

At the end of every mission, you get a list of parts salvaged from the cars you destoyed which you can then incorporate into your vehicle.

It is not as open ended as Autoduel but the graphics are much better (excellent graphics at the time it was made) and it puts you inside the vehicle in first-person style.

If you and your friends have networked computers, I always enjoyed battling my friends in my custom made School Bus with nitros oxcide and rocket launcher. You can build anything from a Ford Pinto to a Mack truck. (the Ford Pinto with the V10 engine and mag wheels is another of my favorties)
