From what I understand, the late Pope was an honorable and enlightened man.
However, I'm not Catholic, and I know very little about him... Does anyone know his background? His life before he came Pope? For me, that would be very interesting to know. |

I know that the city he grew up in was officially athiest and had no church so he led a protest and convinced the government to build a cathedral which he became bishop of.

He was the first Slavic pope(Poland), also the first non-Italian pope in the last few hundred years, he was a pope for 26 years, the 3rd longest in history during which he visited 120 different countries...
