I want my bass guitar to sound like in Metallica (song Master of Puppets) and Fear Factory (in their album Demanufacture). What effects must be to achieve such sound or what style of playing needed (if it's needed)?

EDIT: I forgot to say, I play through the computer. So, if there is any progs, it would be great.

Well, you could always get some overdrive pedals for the bass and test em out.

I think that bass is best, when you use no effects - in master of puppets Newsted (or Burton) didn't used any! I don't know much about Fear Factory, but I can assure you that 85% of whole metal bass is just a pure bass sound - are you playing in some band ? Or you want to play at home for yourself ?

Ps. If you use distortion or overdrive box your bass will sound not like instrument but farting and that's not good !

I don't know, it just doesn't sound like pure! Pure sound sounds very not loud. At least, I always have to amplify it. And it doesn't sound like in songs I mentioned!
BTW, does anybody know, how to record separate instruments? I mean, when you need to record guitar, bass and then combine it with electronic drums. When I played my acoustic guitar through ReValver listening to MIDI song (I don't like metronome), I cut processed WAV "by eye" to the place, where sound starts. As you understand, first I turn record on in ReValver, then start to play MIDI in GuitarPro and then start to play my guitar. So this gap in beginning I cut. Thus, when I combine it with drums, they started to sound not in tact after 20-25 seconds. I assume, that my cut "by eye" in Cool Edit is wrong, but I can't figure out better way.

P.S. I used to play with my friends, but now I play at home.
