Default No more free endings says Mike Capps

“The secondary market is a huge issue in the United States. Our primary retailer makes the majority of its money off of secondary sales, and so you’re starting to see games taking proactive steps toward that by… if you buy the retail version you get the unlock code,” he said.
“I’ve talked to some developers who are saying ‘If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay USD 20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free’. We don’t make any money when someone rents it, and we don’t make any money when someone buys it used - way more than twice as many people played Gears than bought it.”
This is actually more of console stuff, but it could spread on PC games as well, if it ever happens.

more than twice as many people played whatever

i think this is even more so in the PC games area. But games are a bit expencive. i mean 40 eur for a game that will keep me occupied a maybe few (not full) weekends....

If somebody buys something, its their property. If they want to sell it to somebody else, its their right.

This is stupid.

If they're willing to kill their sales, then go ahead.

The whole thing about whining because people buy used games is just plain stupid. Today's games are way too short so that I'd pay 40-60 € for them.

I supppose the next step is to introduce somekind of ID for the player like fingerprints, so that producers make sure nobody other than the person who bought the game can play it.

Shhhhhhh! Don't give them any ideas. Gods, why are they so annoyed about people selling something they own? Oh dear, they don't get extra money.

Well, I can certainly see this sort of talk swelling the ranks of sites like this, and filling the wallets of the people that run good old games...

If you buy the game, you just get the license to use the game, not the game itself.

It is when stupid things like these will be implemented that everybody will love to have a "hacker" friend.
