I'm afraid we're reaching a point where all games on the PC will be "old," if Microsoft has its way.

I am impartial. Though with a twist. My top 5 most favourite games are old, very old. Still, I like newer games a lot. I do not see the old games as superior to the new ones. There are exceptions but since I am old enough to have played the games originaly, when I wasn't too young, I remember the good but also the bad things about them. The horrible controls, graphics, sound, linearity, bugs without patches, that most of those games had. True, many (but not most) modern games have horrible controls, linearity, bugs without patches/with, but far less in percentage than in the "old" times.
Still, if anyone tries to steal my old games from me he will be sorry :-p

I voted oldies. In the days when computer graphics were not as "In your face" as they are now, developers had to rely on things like storyline, gameplay and replayability to satisfy. Now many games are on the safe side, with good graphics but not much more. And it takes one hell of a machine to play them. Is it really better than a good old 486 with UFO, Daggerfall and Warlords 2 ? 'Course not !

Voted for oldies. Because:

I - New ones often lack gameplay - they offer graphics instead
II - Oldies are just original. Newbies are just copies of oldies with worse gameplay and better graphics. (Not all of course!)

I like the oldest for two reason, first i always had a old pc , an because of that reason, i didn´t have good grafics cards, so i only can play old games, and the second reason is because i remember my past playing games , that i had paly many years ago.

Yup same here.
New games doesn't have that feeling to it like the old games.

I only make a few exceptions when it comes to the strategy games. There are a few nice ones like the Warlords, Heroes and Warhammer series. But overall they dont make the games as addictive as they were in the old days.

Aahhh those were the days :P

First of all a 5 year old game isn't that old.
If you're going back to the first 3d games thats a start.
NES old, Genesis old, 3DO is old, even early PS1 is old.
Anything after that is of this generation of games.
I miss 2d games.
Too many 3d games these days are just graphics but crap games.

Definitely oldies. They've got the climate, and the taste. Computer games are like wine - the older, the better.

Isn't the question: "is next-gen gaming so much better than old skool?" True, the graphics have evolved significantly, but when I compare UFO Enemy Unknown (originally from 1994) with UFO Aftershock (thank god that one was better than Aftermath), I much prefer the old game.

So isn't the question more what gamers prefer: great graphics or great gameplay?
