This game certainly holds a special place in my heart. Even with the numerous problems that have made themselves apparent as I've grown older (and really should have been noticed before the initial release), it's certainly fun, and paved the way for more realistic shooters over the years.

In fact, I've started the fundamentals of doing an update of the game (a la the OpenGL Carrier Command remake, though this will be using DirectX). I did all four tours to get the feel for everything, and though the game is frustrating in some ways that shouldn't be, the overall idea is solid, and deserves more respect than it gets.

Arecibo. good luck with the update - this game definitely deserves it! Still have the game on my hard drive and had the game since '98!

Didn't find a link for the manual, possibly because I'm a blind illitterate. In any case: The manual is downloadable from replacementdocs.com, in case anyone else but me wondered.

Nice, btw, to see this title yet again downloadable

Tried it and now I'm wondering:

In the intro, the credits are flickering and the same happens to the graphics (cursor) in the menus, as well as the graphics during cut scenes.

Any idea how to correct that?

EDIT:

After completing the first mission (ambush, 1st Nov, 1966) in the campaign, the next mission was on the 3rd (demolition). There is a patrol mission on the 2nd. Any idea why I didn't get to play that patrol mission? Does mission duration come into play here?

A you should be using 0.73 and secondly, do you have a usb gamepad or something attached? If no USB, try DOSBox 0.73, v0.63is quite an old version. I have no problem running it in 0.73. And I have an original copy.

Hi all, I've registered, but I couldn't wait to the conf email to post this...

In the game while running dosbox (my ver 0.72), just press ctrl+F12 until the CPU Cycles reach 30500. The game should run fine.

Some key functions:
A - Fire at will
B - N/A
C - Cease fire
D - Form a diamond
E - N/A
F - Field
G - Grenade (will not throw if out of range, or if not near an enemy, a grey patch will appear on the ground notifying the distance you'll throw it.)
H - Halt
I - N/A
J - Join team
K - N/A
L - Form a column
M - Map (where you can see what objectives you have, and what assistance you can call in)
N - Change weapon
O - N/A
P - Team split
Q - Dive quickly (very useful for avoiding grenades & gunfire, sometimes. Or getting that much closer to lob a grenade.)
R - Reload
S - Search (good for finding items & documents on dead VC, or capturing a surrendered VC)
T - Fire at target
U - N/A
V - Form a V wedge
W - Fire at will
X - Expand (map view)
Y - N/A
Z - Zoom (map view)

Spacebar - Map
Enter - Fire gun
] - Cycle through tools you have
[ - Use tool (i.e medic pack)
F1 - Change view to 1st person
F2-10- Other views & unknown.

Cheers
