I have recently downloaded Megamek, which is a Java-based game and after reading the readme I tried to run it, with no success. The "java" command from Total Commander command-line opens up C:/Windows/(something)/Java and does nothing else, even with extra parameters.

From the command-line window of XP it does nothing at all.

What the hell is the command that runs Microsoft VM???

Indeed. Install Sun's JRE:download link. You could use the one from IBM as well (some swear by this one). After the JRE is installed, your Java program/game should work!

Java is evil... I would never install it on my system intentionally...

its not that java in itself is evil. its that unless you have sp2 installed it opens you up to certain buffer overun viruses and other nastiness. then again so does pretty much any i.m program.
i like java a lot but im aware of the potentiol for havoc it opens on your pc.

Just use a firewall and deny the JRE access to the internet and you should be ok...

Also doesn't help if the security breach is via your browser. I'm sure even Firefox is not protected enough in that way to call it "safe".

I do have SP1&SP2, but the damn "help" is completely helpless. Nothing on how to run it.
