Never Mind. I figured out a way past the ambush at the City of Brass. After you open the gates, but before anything can actually happen, stop time by clicking on the movement cursor. Speed up time to the fastest setting (I play on slow because fast is blinding and impossible to control). Then, order your party to join al-Mansur. On fast speed, the party jumps the half-centimeter or so into al-Mansur's camp so fast that the skeleton ambush doesn't have time to trip. You fight the battle with the skeletons normally. I don't know if this simple solution will work for anyone else, but it worked for me.
