Hi there,

it has been a long time since I appeared the last time on the forum. My laptop was quite broken for several weeks. And before that my internet connection sucked for a very long time. Now finally I've got a new ISP and a new laptop as well. After I sent my Vaio three times to the vaio service I got a brand new high end notebook which is way better than its predecessor :-D Unfortunately the new one got Vista installed and I've got quite a few problems. One of these problems is driving me really nuts. I tried the whole night to get emule to run. Therefore I set my router to the appropriate settings and I also got a static ip. Norton Antivirus 2007 shouldn't be a problem either. But no, I can't get a high id. The program says that ports are being used by another program. Actually I don't use emule very often. But this issue reveilled my ambition...
Does anybody have some clues in order to solve this annoying problem? Googled nearly the whole web and there doesn't seem to be much that could be helpful...

Vista is ment to "protect" us form "piracy". Emule is enouraging "piracy". maybe MS installed some stuff that prevents sharing or opening ports

anyway are the ports open on your router? if so then you should try and identifiy which programme is using the port. also check the firewall if it has it open. firewall should also show you which programe is using the port (i think).

Problem is: Vista is too new. And sucks IMO. No patches, maybe your prob is a bug OR it's the common Vista problem: Vista denies practically everything.
I'd rather floor Vista and put XP on that thing. That should work. You'll have all drivers and full compability then PLUS a familiar operating system that you can handle and get easily advice and help for. k:
Do you consider this as a solution?

EDIT: <!--QuoteBegin-gregor

I guess it wouldn't have worked before if that was the case.

You may be right. When I changed the xp book into a vista book. I didn't care about filesharing much. And now it's just this ambition to get it working...

Well, you're of course completely right. I gave away my old notebook with its wonderfully fine working system and its totally collapsed hardware just to get one with totally fine working hardware but a totally allapsed system :-D But you know, it's quite difficult to get a recent notebook with XP on it. At least if you wanna own a vaio....

And again: of course you're right. I just wanted to see how all works on vista. And therefore I left it on the system. I meant that I think having it set up properly...

Thought about that. But I don't have a single copy of winxp...

EDIT: Uhm, BTW what's wrong with my quoting...? Done that a hundred times :tai:
EDIT by data: Quoting repaired.

Some of the closing tags have \ instead of /, and so they are invalid and don't close their quotes.

I will get vista but only when SP1 comes out for it. I think MS have done a bad job with the current vista, So like others I will wait.

So will I.
I even thought about not to switch to Vista at all if there wouldn't be the nasty fact that I'm workin in the IT branch and I have to have knowledge about latest things. But I'm still apprentice so I may have sketchy knowledge...

Back to topic:
The way I see it, no one can really help you here cause no one knows Vista thoroughly or at all...
