Operating System: Windows 98 Second Edition

Today I actually managed to think a little, and, after seeing the advantages of having the network and the internet working at the same time, I decided to plug my modem into my USB "hole" (what's the name for it ? ) and install the drivers from the CD I got with it.

15 seconds later (surprize, surprize) I noticed that Windows can't find the drivers on the CD. :blink: I read the manual and noticed where the *.inf files should be on the CD. They are not missing or anything else. I restart, select "automatically search for new drivers" and over there select CD....nothing. The search came up empty.

Eh, it happens. "back, "back", "select drivers from the list", "other devices". A list appears where I can either select "unknown device" or select "have disk". I select the one with the disk and ... "windows cannot find a disk....". :not_ok: Time for browse, drives: D. Oh, look. Those *.inf files. I opened the one for my modem type (from what I read in the readme) and ..."that file does not contain information about your hardware". I tried opening the other inf files, but the same thing appeared.

How could I actually install those drivers ? Windows seems not to recognise them. :help:

I have no idea why it would not locate the proper drivers automatically on the disk. It is very puzzling unless you cannot install the modem drivers to your USB controller (maybe it is 1.0 and the modem requires 2.0)

In any case, my having both plugged in simultaneously, you would get no benefit in internet speed as you are not being limited by your modem but by your ISP.

I don't care about the speed. I would just like to have the network and the internet installed at the same time. I cannot find any file on the cd in which I'm told about what my modem requires.

Installation:
-------------
Installing the USB driver on Microsoft Windows 98SE or ME or 2000 or XP

1.* Power down your PC.
2.* Connect the active RF coaxial cable to the CABLE connector on the cable modem.
3.* Plug USB cable into the modem and into one of the computer USB ports.
4.* Plug in the modem power adapter and make sure that the modem POWER indicator is lit.
5.* Turn the computer power ON to start Windows.
6.* When Windows prompts with "USB Composite Device" in the
* * "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the "Next" button.
7.* Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
* * from the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the
* * "Next" button.
8.* Insert the CD (or floppy disk) provided with your cable modem into the CD ROM:
* * of your PC.
9.* Select "Specify a location" and type Path "CD ROM:\" in the
* * "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the "Next" button.
10. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
11. Windows will prompt with "Scientific Atlanta DPR300/DPX2000/DPX100 & 200 series USB Cable Modem"
* * in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.

* * Note: During the installation process, if Windows displays a warning that the device
* * * * * has not passed Windows logo testing, select "continue anyway" and proceed with
* * * * * the installation.
12. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
* * Windows will copy the .sys driver file from CD ROM:\
* * to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory and the corresponding .INF file from CD ROM:\
* * to the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory.
13. When Windows prompts with "Scientific Atlanta DPR300/DPX2000/DPX100 & 200 series USB Cable Modem"
* * in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the "Finish" button.
14. Remove the USB CD from your CD ROM.
15. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

Hm....nope. I'll try. I only tried getting the drivers from their site.
