Let's analyze the facts, shall we?
Fact: 3D Realms offers Commander Keen 1 and Commander Keen 4 as free downloads.

Fact: Both of these constitute complete games in and of themselves, rather than demo versions. They were intended to hook the player into buying the following episodes, obviously, which doesn't mean the player had to.

Fact: It was OK to copy the shareware games for others to play.

Fact: Free status trumps sold or protected status.
If the game publisher (or whoever current copyright owner is) releases it as freeware or public domain, it's one hundred percent legal. Same would technically apply to self-contained shareware episodes.

It is clear that both titles are sold as part of the collection on Steam. It is at the same time clear that both titles are still being offered free of charge by one of the copyright owners.
If 3D Realms removes the downloads of these episodes from its site, then those would be unsafe (as that would indicate they indeed do not want the games distributed). As long as they do not, both games are technically safe even though still sold.

David86,

Shall I begin uploads of the ones you've marked acceptable?

Yes, do you need FTP access?
Remember that we also need a review and some screenshot to insert the game on main site, not necessarily written by you, but we need them

Yes, to the FTP. I will happily provide screenshots, but I rather think I'd suck at writing a review.

I assume you want JPG screenshots? Size? I would be using DOSBox to generate the screens, which saves in .png.

I'll send you a PM for FTP.

Yes, you can take .png screenshots using DosBox, if I remember correctly it generates a max size of 320x200, they are perfect for the site.
Thanks you very much.

It generates the minimum dimensions (better said: original resolution) with maximum-without-loss indexed colour (palette of the picture). For old DOS games mostly 320x200*. Most pictures on Abandonia are direct DOSBox-made screenshots.

Accordingly to our Oldwarez list Major Striker and Xenophage are Freeware, but I can't find any info about this...only buy links.

Edit: also Joust is on site, is it the same version? We have VGA one.

I've placed remarks in the list, in keeping with you. The version of Joust I have is CGA, 1982 by Atari.

Yes, I'll go ahead step by step editing your post as soon as possible
It's difficult to find info about older ones, I'll probably ask more to you if needed. (Publisher, Developer, Release Date)
