The GeForce 6800 GT and 6800 Ultra are not as good as the Radeon X850XT, but they are both cheaper.

the X800 is very similar to the 6800 Ultra when you compare frames per second (I've got two mags that did benchmarks and Doom3, HL2 and BF2 all got very similar fps using those 2 cards).
However, keep in mind that the 6800 series and the X800 series (that includes X850 obviously) are CrossFire/SLI ready. Get yourself a proper motherboard and a second card from the same series, and there you go! No need to upgrade your graphics for 3 years! So if you're thinking about using dual-GPUs, get the cheaper versions (6800 GT or X800), save up and next year get the mobo+other card. |

That's pci though right? well if I go pci, I guess I'll go 939 too. Too bad I know where I can get an athlon 2700 64(754) for 250 bucks. It seems that most pci boards are at least 939 these days. Is this the case in your experience?
fyi. Now I'm running biostar m7ncd 400 amd 2400+ xp...142 fsb(284) corsair dual memory3200 ati radeon 9600xt 128Mb My critical next upgrade is definitly the processor, as the fsb is holding me back big time, not to mention the 64 bit processing capabilities now. after that is the video card. seeing as how My board is outdated,(socket A) It will determine my route. Your sugestion is interesting, and I will definitly think about it. Just in hearing it, I can fathom the savings, as if you you consider by the time you get the second video card, it will have dropped in price considerably. I really want to be happy with my next upgrade. I fell short of the mark on my last one. |
