yeah, it also sucked according to general opinion.
For me, this movie is great because of the student/teacher dynamic, which is much more prevalent in asian martial arts movies. Most westerners want to see some muscle-bound freak with knives on in forearms spinning around in tights, which is why general opinion means absolutely squat to me in regards to this genre. This movie touches on many aspects of martial arts training that a general sort of person wouldn't appreciate.

You misunderstood. I liked the first 3 films, but the fourth one just seemed like a cash-in attempt. Other people that i've asked about the series didn't like it as much either.

That depends.

The fourth movie has almost nothing in common with the first three! So if people who loved the first three movies thought this would pick up where the other movies left off - they'd really be dissapointed.
It's a good movie, but a completely different genre. You need to watch it as a seperate movie, not as the next of the Karate Kid movies, so the title really was a poor attempt of trying to cash-in on the fame of the first three movies.

Because of Pat Morita - he stared in the Next Karate Kid and he refers to the experiance while training Daniel.

But basically it's a story of a troubled girl having problems and was left in the care of Mr. Miyagi - because her mother and he were friends and the mother went away. It includes some karate action as well.

Two minutes silence for Mr Miyagi. May he rest in peace.

Well, I'm not really familiar with this actor, though I saw Karate Kid (ages ago).

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

That being said, however, my point carries over to the 4th movie as well. I believe that we are all teachers and students through-out our entire life. I am intrinsically drawn to this dynamic. The 4th movie really shows the depth of Miyagi sensei. The true test of a teacher is reading his student, and deciding how to make him/her step through the door of understanding. The two protege characters were separated by quite a polarity. I also have to say, Hillary Swank's character, although harder for me to relate to, played a much more convincing role then Ralph Macchio did. That being said, I much prefer the first and second movies, the former more so I suppose.

Cnn said 25th, but both are hardly reliable sources
