I realize I might have missed it somewhere, but why did I get a .mdf file?

Because it is an MDF image file and you missed it right after the download link? Do you know Daemon Tools?

Thumbs up Space: 1889

Just FYI, the codes aren't included for Space: 1889, but Rawcopy removes the need to enter the right one and it plays under Dosbox.

Good game.

Thanks, now I just need to find a way to bypass the copy protection on Space: 1889. Not sure if finding a way to make the installer actually install the game properly through DOSBox would do it (vs. extracting the files to a folder directly from the image and running the executable from there) but for the moment whenever I start 1889.COM from DOSBox it asks for a year associated with a position on a chart which I don't have and haven't been able to find (it doesn't seem to be in the manual, though please correct me if I am wrong about that.

Any thoughts? Also any idea why the native installer fails to transfer the files? Perhaps an issue with xcopy or dpmi?

Well I feel silly. I had been trying to remove the copy protection via Rawcopy, except I had foolishly ignored the fact that it was showing the incorrect directory by default and I needed to select "no" in order for it to cycle back around to the correct option.

Incidentally, for future gamers looking to install the game, select option 2 for sound (Covox through PC speaker) as selecting the third option (Covox through Sound Master) will give you an error after the intro.
