From the review:

Marathon 2 does not work under Vista because it uses DirectX 2. Sorry everyone with Vista. You could use a Virtual Machine with Windows 95 or 98 installed (Virtual PC is free).
No need for Virtual Machine. Just download dplay.dll and place it in the game directory. After that the game runs just fine under Vista.

actually the marathon engine was open sourced a long time ago, so its
quite easy to play on any modern operating system including the horrid vista (i play it on linux)

Also this makes marathn 1 availble for windows as well, all the info can be found on this site: http://marathon.sourceforge.net/

i think those games might suite well in reloaded because of the source release
and them being actually freeware now, not abandonware.

The sourceforge page is sort of the developer page but the more official Marathon abandon/give away page is this: http://source.bungie.org/ and /get.

I think it is sponsored by Bungie.

Hmm, I thought that we don't place freeware on Abandonia, that it's for Reloaded?!

Great.

About the game, don't thickles my interest, I'm not into space/futuristic games that much(I hope Fifth Horseman won't mind ).

Man I remember playing this on a friend's Mac and you could mod it replacing the sounds with your recordings (voices in our case), it turned freakingly hilarious, especially since a different sound was played every 0.5 seconds on average. We also did that with Warcraft II... L0L

Yeah, definitely one of the greatest Mac games ever. And I think it's superior to Doom and its other FPS counterparts from the 90s. Doom may have popularized the genre, but the Marathon series refined it. Excellent graphics, physics, controls, enemies, story, atmosphere, multiplayer. You could definitely do funny stuff with mods. I remember in the first Marathon, I modded the grenade launcher to shoot exploding hulks instead.
