I don't see any strange in that. I shed a tear when I learned that the drummer of Shonen Knife got killed. You don't have to be a pro weeper to cry a bit

Well, I don't know who that drumer is, so I didn't cry for him and I was shocked to learn about Luciano's death... but it wasn't until I acctually listened to him perfom the Nessun Dorma again... then I shed a tear as well.

I guess it's just got something to do with a great man passing away. I mean people genuenly cried when Stalin died (even some of the people who hated him wholeheartidly), so is it then really so hard to imagine that people would shed a tear for a great artist who brought a lot of beauty to the world?

call me an ignorant but its still hard to imagine for me if its not close family member or anything simmilar. people die every day and nobody realy cares about them cause they werent famous singers. its not that their life was less valuable, but nobody would shed a tear for them if they seen him dying in news

I kind of have to agree with _r.u.s.s.
It's dumb when some celebrity passes away but when someone dies of far more tragic causes or an entire handful of people die in a accident or war it hardly receives the same attention.

It's because they're not famous.

There is also this: One is a tragedy, one million is statistics. Like it or not, this is how it works.

It's not because he's just some celebrity that I'm sad. Pavarotti was quite possibly the greatest tenor to have ever lived, and he was pretty much my hero. Yes, he had a lot of natural talent, but he struggled for quite awhile trying to get his voice into shape and getting discovered. Heck, he was an Elementary school teacher (fired) and an insurance salesman to support him while trying to make it as an Opera singer. He was probably the biggest influence on me in choosing to go into Opera, and I am deeply saddened that I never had the opportunity to meet my Hero or ever hear him perform in concert. The first time I heard him perform Nessun Dorma I was filled with such emotion and wanted to share that feeling with everyone else.

So yes, I shed tears in honor of this amazing man, and regarding the knowledge that the biggest influence in my life will never know how important he was to me.
