Ok was talking to my brother and I was thinkin of a new design and concept for console gaming

A console that does not play cds and or cartridges or anything everything runs from the harddrive that comes with it...you download the games Via internet connection...online monthly fee......25 dollars Canadian

Comments????? negative and positive welcome tell me what you think the ups and downs would be????

still a controller and memory card

but this is just a suggestion like to know what everyone thinks

Considering the today's sizes of the games, you will need a really huge harddrive for that. But why would it need a memory card, if the console will have the harddrive already?

Phantom???? please do post a link

oh yeah....the reason i say memory card...so you may take your save game to your friends house.......see this is the problem I see with a HD only system...you cannot bring games over to play with at your buddies because the game itself is on the hd...and what if your friend has not downloaded it...... Removable hd maybe...double slots for 2 hds so you can transfer games????

I know for a fact the official 40 gig harddrive for ps2 can hold around 5 ps2 games.......since we are already up to 300 gig hds maybe even 400 I dunno but thats like alotta games.......this kinda system can be universal...no more dirty lenses...no more laser burnouts...faster load time...no more cd read error cause of scratched cds

see alot of problems are fixed.......but what could be the new problems???

rofl. people are still investing money in phantom??
never was something better named.. "phantom"
notice there is never a real picture of anything, just a computer mock-up..

check out this old article investigating the ceo and his previous companies where he got investors money and just squandered it, and has fake offices..

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTEy

id be amazed if 'phantom' ever sees the light of day, or that it even exists

One problem is the industry.

Although I'm merely speculating.. I'm sure there is lots of money to be made from the manufacture and distribution of software.

If you moved to a purely d/loaded system, there would be a lot of vested interests against you. That said though, you would drastically reduce the cost of gaming and therefore bring more people into your market (therefore making those unhappy people happy again).

The other thing I can see happening with a downloaded system is viruses. Naturally you will need a broadband connection: permanent IP address, permanently connected.

It's almost like a PC that you can attach to a TV though. I guess it will be optimised for gaming.

Sounds kinda cool if you can get it to work though.
