Someone I know studies theoretical physics, and is graduating on string theory. He says most of the things he does only work in TEN dimensions... Way too abstract for me... :wallbash:

And as for those puzzles...

I guess it's safe to say those cubes are really only in 3D. Add time, and you get the 4th. Not that this makes them any easier to solve...

About 4 or more dimensions in space: I propose a world wide ban on more than 3 dimensions.
We don't need them.
They only mess things up.
Things worked fine until they showed up
Let's face it, they are nothing but trouble

Join the "3D Liberation Army" TODAY!

Oh, and I never solved the ol' Cube either...

As far as I know, the dimensions added beyond the third (apart form time) aren't real dimensions! Those are just "mathematical fiction" used in matrix calculations (like the use of "tensors" to solve relativity... )
It's almost like in those 4/5-D cubes, which are however tridimensional!

I took one look at the 4D one and gave up :bleh:

I'm even way to Stupid to Solve the 3d one...

Who managed it to Solve the 5d one must have either Jedi Powers or been more intelligent than Steven Hawking... :tai:

It's even worse then I thought... I just read on wikipedia:

In bosonic string theories, the 26 dimensions come from the Polyakov equation (see technical details in the preprint "Quantum Geometry of Bosonic Strings - Revisited"). However, these results appear to contradict the observed four dimensional space-time.
:wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

We'll have to wait a while before someone makes a 26D-Rubiks cube I guess

Ignore that hooey, and see it as an ordinary, old fashioned 3D puzzle. It is confusing, but there are only 3 dimensions here, really.

I'd say those scientists had too much coffee with too much sugar in it. Beside being barking mad, of course...
