The starting point of my argument is that you don't want to download for yourself i.e. there's nothing out there that you want. For whatever reason, it's an hypothesis --a very likely one since millions of people don't use torrents, *raises hand*, *all his family members raise hands*. The hypothesis can't be disproven because it's not a conclusion, it's the starting point.

So, provided that person X doesn't want anything from the torrent network, if it was empathy his main motivation as you say, he might still install a torrent client and download things he doesn't want and will never use but that he knows people want, and just seed all the time. Since that never happens, my point.

END
[/b]
but you CAN want something. that doesnt block you from sharing it with others. but you seriously dont have to do it. its just your free will. it has nothing to do with you future or past downloads

I started out with Azureus, too. Then I switched to uTorrent because it's much more resource-friendly. That JavaVM takes way too much RAM.

I've got 2 gigs, so I don't really need to worry about it. Honestly, everyone's excuse for not using Azureus is because they say it's 'bloatware' when in fact they themselves just need a RAM upgrade.

@Velik: And the rest of us thank you for the ego boost!

My ratio isn't too good, utorrent tells me it's 0.673. This isn't through lack of trying though.

I get lots of my torrents from an invite only, private tracker site where seeders outnumber downloaders by 100 to 1 in many (most) cases. It's therefore damn near impossible for me to get anything uploaded with a few dozen other seeders with faster connections than me giving any downloaders the files before I get a look in. This is annoying, since it's one of those sites that tracks your ratio and regulates how much you can download by it; I've built up enough uploading to tide me over for a long time throguh seeder rarer files and holding onto all of the things I've downloaded from there ever, in the hope that a couple of them will upload.

I like to concentrate my seeding on rarer things, which I leave there indefinitely and have pretty good ratios on (over 6 and rising in most cases).

Yeah...and if you're having trouble seeding you could always try downloading from [BEEEP], you know. It's an awesome site, but it's public so there're a lot of leechers...

Sorry, no torrent sites -- TFH

That is also my idea - if something is rare - I share a lot, if it's something with 100+ seeders, I share only 12 hours.

My ratio is about 2,3, and I would like it to pass over 3

OMG I'm getting such a lame download speed for the file I'm downloading right now that my ratio is 154% and I have only 7% of the file myself.

Mine is set to share 100% within 2 hours of compleation. So once the torrent is done, and no others are qued, it'll share up to 100% but a maximum of 2 hours. This is to rotate the que a bit and conserv MY intrests.

Mine is around 0.8 and rising, I want to reach a good 1.5 / 2.
