Hehe now that's a classic!

I must admit I love debates like this. One's where it's a gray area and everyone has an opinion. They always make me think and re-evaluate things sometimes.

Well, I'll list all the archive formats I know of and you can decide which is / was how (good or bad).
RAR, ZIP, ARJ, LHA, UC2
Arent that many as you can see. It's because I started to use WinRar immediately after I saw it the first time and gave all others up. It had the best compression then, even better than UC2 and it still has the best around (of which I know). Also it's most user-friendly of all before and now. My clear favorite.

The point of archiving games is that it takes less place. So, if rar is the best in term of compression, the question should not even be asked: switch to rar!

Yup, would be nice....but kinda difficult, if you mean CHANGE ALL GAMES ARCHIVES into rar....

I personally use WinAce, and rather like it, seen it also deal with RAR and much other compression formats.

The funny is, my license expired 429 days ago

Edit: I just said a number, now checked....524 days

hahaha, about the same thing here

Just like we would pay for a "licence" if the program keep running...

Anyways, I would be willing to change games from .zip to .rar. After all, all it takes is a little processor power and my computer often have large amount of these sitting in a corner of the PC box...

I have 5.99 gb disk space so every time I get a game I recompress it to rar with zipgenius but that's too time consuming

P.S. to Kosta
I would prefer .ogg maybe slow but much more space-efficient (My precious (disk space ))

I'm going a bit off-topic as this is not related to this site directly and also on dangerous terrain since it's touching the subject of warez.

First let me say that I don't approve warez but the thing I think is strange is that games released by the warez-groups such as myth/class/etc... always stick to using ace2-compression while rar3-compression is better for most data in many cases.

That being said they use also Uharc and an mp3-encoder/decoder for compressing multimedia-data but that is a pain to extract as it takes a loooong while...

Takes a bit more than that - You first need to dowload the games, and then upload them again. I hope you've got loads of very fast bandwidth at your disposal, as some of the games aren't that small!

Why is this topic discussed so intensive. Why is it discussed at all. We all know, that Kosta ain't going to change the compression format! <_<
