Anyway, if they come they will be more advanced as they can travel through space, and as proven over and over by ourselves on Earth, the more advanced cultures are always very friendly towards the lesser developed ones.
If they come they will certainly help us.

There is another problem with life in space.

I mean the space has been in existence for billions of years now, and even if the races evolved and advanced to be capable of traveling with light speed, who is to say they aren't extinct.

Just look at our own civilization, 2000 years is an itsy bitsy period in the existence of space and how many different lifeforms have went extinct since then just on our own planet?

I think it's very very unlikely that there is a developed civilization in this time. There is a possibility that on planets like Mars which were once more like Earth an advanced civilization existed. But after millions of years of time passing there just wouldn't be any evidence. The same might be true for our own civilization.

True, there are a few obstacles one must get past in order to have an old culture still alive, selfdestruction in one. On the other hand, as long as we have absolutely no idea what sort of mentality any aliens might have, we can't rule out that there have been a number of cultures that died "of natural causes" or that there are ancient cultures still in existence.

Yeah well, what do you think where HIV came from? If it was just a disease like any other we would be able to find a stopping cure for it, which still wasn't possible to archieve so far despite many years of trying.

Come on. Finding a cure to a disease isn't that simple, even if it's relatively simple disease. And HIV is a damn complex disease. The real problem with HIV is that it infects other cells, making our immune systems to destroy them, which in the long run makes us less resistant to other diseases, meaning that a simple flu could actually kill you. Plus, the disease originated from monkeys, then mutated to infect humans, making it even more complex.

That's just a speculation, no one knows for sure where it really came from.
Besides, as much as I know, for every other disease there was always found a cure, even if maybe not permanently since the microbes tend to adapt after some time, but there can be found a cure for every other disease. For this one not, and it's already many, many years since it first appeared.

Just a side note: They are testing a new medicine against HIV. So far, the tests have shown a decrease in virus count of 90%.
