I haven't notice that this "gem" was missing from the abandonia collection!
I remember playing it as a coin-op (although i can't recall the cabinet mentioned above. I was playing it in a modified one. It had the classic shape with the joystick and the 3 buttons but also 2 pedals attached at the bottom to simulate the gas and the brake). It was the era when the credit for the arcade games changed from 20 to 50 drachmas (approx. from 6 to 15 eurocents).
I didnt enjoyed it that much due to the limited gameplay. Sometimes I couldnt last more than one min!
That's why i'm one of the few that preferred the pc/xt version. In my cga monitor and with the aid of my pc speaker i had all the time i needed to explore all the different routes and the different endings (like the one where the crowd drops you off when they see a pitbabe)
The game was more a "comedy" arcade than a pure race arcade.

For those interested, the MAME edition imho is superior than this one...

I remember this game, but didn't play many times... Racing games aren't my cup of tea. Arcade versions were always far superior to computer conversions back then, take Altered Beast for instance.

Wow, almost unbelievable that this classic was still missing...
Not really.

Kosta considered this game not worthy to be put on the site. I know that some people had it prepared over half a year ago, but were told that the game will not go up. Now Henrik made sure it was put on the site.

Actually I don't (nor didn't) find this game that great, even though I can't quite remember how it stood technically against other contemporary games. But this game sure was famous, don't ask me why.

That's surprising
Not that Outrun is so sublime, but it offers quite good gameplay. And after all sometimes truly horrible games are being uploaded, so why not this decent game? :P

Aparently Kosta's standards have slipped some since a year ago. I mean, that flagger game that just showed up, wow. There's a reason the reviewer couldn't find it anywhere. Actually there are several.

Exactly... Some games seem to be here just for the sake of completeness.
But I've really enjoyed Outrun back then, I definitely wouldn't call it a bad game.
