Question Guitar advice needed

Can any guitar players help me. I recently got an el cheapo electric guitar and i have found that the 5th fret on the 6th string doesn't is a different tone to the open 5th string even when both strings are in tune when played openly. This is the same on all the strings. I have compared this to my classical guitar which is spot on. I think the frets might be incorrectly spaced and i was wondering whether this guitar is a dud or whether the problem is something fixable.

Try changing strings, that happens on my guitar when strings are old.

Tulac is right, old strings can cause the fretboard to be "out of tune", but it can also be an incorrect bended fretboard. This is fixable on most guitars, by turning the fretboard truss rod. It is a delicate operation that should be done by someone who knows exactly what he/she's doing.

EDIT: Another cause is that the adjustable blocks on the saddle are out of position. When in correct position, the 12th fret and 12th fret harmonic should produce the exact same tone.

2nd EDIT: Last, if the string gauge is changed, say from 0.09 to 0.11, that can also mess up the tuning. Basically, you want to tune the guitar to one gauge and stick with that.
