If you had a directory one level higher than the root ( ) and would execute the BAT from there, it wouldn't work. (Your post has nothing to do with the quote, I would say. )
I'd like to point out that in the good old DOS days, there was a way to add a "default directory" or "path" (I sadly don't recall the exact command) which made the platform search in the "default" directory whenever the command or file wasn't found in the current directory.

This is how DOS handled the basic commands in the upper versions. Instead of knowing the files are in A: or B:, they copied all the commands in one directory and created the path there. It was possible to add more directories to this default path.

So, someone creating a batch file and placing it in such a directory would make it work in any directory just like if it was called by typing the full path.

Are you talking about the good all environment variable PATH?

No, not really.
Use SET PATH only with a variable.

Correct syntax for path ( and not 'the path') would be something as:

path c:\;c:\dos;d:\programs;

Remark: in dos you should always put C:\ in front of the rest you need.

Cool A must

This game is a must for anyone that likes addictive tactical and strategic gaming.
Your main focus should be city expansion until around 1000 AD.
Play Hard.

You get real DOS, not pc-DOS. You don't have real DOS. Now please, if you aren't going to use DOSbox, figure out how DOS works before you try to use it, OK? Google might help. We aren't your DOS helpdesk - we're here to help with game issues, not your outdated computer problems. /angry

PC-DOS 7.0 IS real DOS...which doesn't answer my question.

As far as I am concerned, MS-DOS 6.22 is the latest real stand alone version of DOS. Any number higher than that are stripped down versions bundled with Windows platforms.

Use DOSBox or use a real DOS platform.

Quote:
However the only versions of DOS currently recognized as stand-alone OSs, and supported as such by the Microsoft Corporation are DOS 6.0 and 6.22, both of which remain available for download via their MSDN, volume license, and OEM license partner websites, for customers with valid login credentials.
