Hello,
I wanted to install MS-DOS and I inserted MS-DOS 6.22 Disk 1 into the FD drive but when it tries to boot from that disk, it says to remove the disk. I tried also to insert a boot disk with the basic files ( command.com; autoexec.bat etc) and it boots. So I try to copy them to the C: partition and after I remove the disk and restart it still requests me to insert a system disk. Does somebody know what I did wrong or what should I also try?

Thanks in advance,
>-Andy-<

damn, lomg time since I installed dos , the dos disk 'should' be bootable, but if not for some reason then it is not enough to just copy those files from the other disk as you require some more files and they need to be written to a particular part of the HDD , if it is a DOS boot disk then you will need to copy the format.exe (?? not sure on extension) or sys.com(??) files to the boot disk and then boot from it and either run ' format c: /s ' or 'sys c:' to copy them correctly

It dosen`t work. I tryed the "sys C:" command and it says one one of the boot disks: " Bad command or filename" and on a other disk: "Incorrect DOS version"

Your DOS installation disk #1 is quite obviously defective. The best option is downloading the installlation disk images and burning them to fresh floppies, then boot with them and just follow the instructions.

A little off-topic:
Is MS-DOS Abandonware by now?

It isn't, but then... there is always FreeDOS.
