I am of that tender young age where I played a decent number of games in the mid 90s, but I can't remember what most of them were. Can you help me remember this one?

There was this very strange demo I had once. It was a video game of a card game. I don't know if it was ever a real card game or not. Similar in style to M:TG in that it was two players facing off against each other, trying to take the other guy down. It wasn't fantasy themed, but kind of pseudo, funky sci-fi. I seem to remember artwork depicting flying skateboards, robots, and fingerless gloves.

This striking any chords with anybody?

I searched for it a bit and cannot find it.

Egad! That sounds very familiar to me as well...I can't think of a title, alack, but if I come across it, I'll let you know.

I know this probably isn't it but maybe Etherlords 1 or 2. I don't remember the flying glove or skateboard so probably not. If you want a really great card game there's a pretty good one called Armageddon Empires by Cryptic Comet. You can get the Demo from their homepage and once I played I bought it. Just a word of warning read the tutorial Anyways hope that helps.
