when looking at a game you should very fast ignore the graphics as they are of little relevance.

as You should judge people by their interior and not their looks.

But good graphics certainly help

My opinion is that when playing a shooter, the most important thing is the gameplay, and gameplay is all about graphics, wich makes the game seem more realistic

That depends on kind of game that's played. On RPG's it is enough to have mediocre, but showing necessary details graphics - other elements make ususally more than up for it. On 3D-shooters graphics are just very important, in that you can see enemies as farthest away as possible, and also the overall atmosphere is determined by good graphics.
Of course, RPG's can have fantastic graphics too, like Gothic (because it's in 3D), but in 3D-shooters they are more needed.

You didn't mention Platform games. Heh. Or fighting games, or old FPS games which were still good, or strategy games...
