i think hard discs where 1.44MB ones at one stage the old old floppies from the 80s were simple something like 256K they were about 20cm by 20cm and really floppy - of course once CDs came out they went the way of the dinosaurs and 1.44MBs became floppy discs and hard drives of course well they were magnetic discs became harddrives

Once of those technobabble things that changed i guess.

X-Wing Alliance was a kids game. Everything about it was designed to bring in a younger audience (emkay, for instance). It is a better game then X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter but it is worse then TIE-Fighter and even X-Wing.

Online play of X-Wing Alliance was the saving grace of the game but it just wasn´t enough.

Those kept me interrested in the game for a few hours longer then it would have otherwise but since the mainstay of the game (its campaign) was not interresting I stopped playing the game after just fifteen hours or so of play. In all fairness topping a game like TIE-Fighter is pretty difficult.

guys i love you.

you have brought bcak to me memories of youth long forgotten.

I loved this game, used to ge tup at 5am before school to play it.

i had the orginal v1 version of x-wing. only the basics...and it was so fun. I used to love the missions where you had to inspect transport frieghtors with 2 other y-wings. and a star destroyer would turn up after you thought you had finished the lat of the Ties off... o the joys of youth.

cheers guys

Only X-Wing is abandoned for the moment but thanks for the offer.

The CD is mounted like this (once you have mounted X-Wing with Deamon tools).

mount d -t cdrom g:\

this tells DOSBox to treat the virtual CD-ROM drive deamon tools made as a CD-ROM drive in DOSBox. once done you will have a D drive in DOSBox that holds the X-Wing CD.
now type,

mount c c:\dosprog

this tell DOSBox that the C: drive is located on c:\dosprog
now type,

d:

you move to the D: drive
now type,

install

and everything will work from there. Remember that DOSBox thinks your C: drive is in c:\dosprog so even if you install in c:\xwingcd is will actually be located on your computer in c:\dosprog\xwingcd
once the install is done type,

cd xwingcd followed by,
xwingcd

and the game will run.

hope this helps and if you still have any problems just say so
