I have a strong desire to learn some basics in swords fighting. :Titan:
In the town, where I live, there isn't any sport club like that, only "tolkienists", people, who play RPG games based on Tolkien's immortal story "Lord of the Rings". So I thought, if somebody knows a links to some sites or maybe books. I have downloaded some interesting manuals of basic training. If somebody interested in fencing on that kind of weapons, I may recommend Academy of Medieval Martial Arts

Why not just use a tank to kill enemies?

It's just for common development, you know.

The pointy side of your sword goes thru your ennemy.

'nuff said.

Edit: seriously tough, are you talking about real swords? Because real two-handed swords are so long and so heavy that you probably won't even be able to swing it properly. Better use a longsword or at least a bastard sword (a sword you can use both with one or two hands).

In RL, katana are probably the best swords all around.

If there was any training in fencing available where I live, I'd have signed up years ago. The ammount of strength, concentration and insight that can be neccesary is impressive.
Besides, it's just very cool :P

If I remember correctly, the use of a real doublehanded sword was to stand somewhere in heavy armor, and keep the enemy at bay. As EoF said bastard swords are propably used for fencing.

One tip I can give you: The right stance's hell of alot important. I've noticed that, when I'm doing poke-competitions against one of my kids at Scouts (well, one in specific, as the others're no match), tides of the battle turn in my favour when I take on a decent stance.

I've practiced swordsplay alot as a kid, with a stick in the garden. Just gain a good stance through that, one that'll allow you to maintain your balance and to put that extra weight in attacks and'll allow you to dodge without staggering. After that, practice basic slashes: sideways, other way sideways, stab and slash. Even better's if you practice them while advancing (and keeping your guard up) Nothing's as good as driving your opponent into nothing but defence.

If you've mastered those, you can practice them on various heights, so you'll properly be able to dodge while attacking, and'll be able to attack any bodypart, not just the middle. Also try combinations of those basic ones then.

What I've also noticed to help, is if you'll keep attacking swarms of fruitflies or mosquitos (you know the type: the air's humid, it's spring and near fruittrees, there're these balls of tiny insects) until they've all been scattered.

Last but definitely not least is sparring. If you've got a good grasp of the basics, it's time to practice them in spar-fights. Most important part here's that you keep your mind about and won't become reckless. Know what you do and learn to read your opponent to see what he'll be doing. And most definitely: don't give him the chance to drive you into defence. Once you're in there, it's hard as hell to turn the tide.

After you've mastered all that, it's up to specialists to further your training.

It's all the time alot better to train oneself in kick-boxing than swinging some knifes around. That at least allows you to protect yourself, where swinging swords won't bring you anything useful. Just my opinion...
