Default I.M. Meen sound missing

After some struggle with getting the game to run at all, I've come up against the sound not playing. The config (INSTALL.exe) closes before it finishes loading, so that doesn't help.
I read elsewhere that I have to move some of the files included to the MEENDATA folder, but I'm not sure which ones. Moving all of them (except the .exe files of course) results in the game not running again, so I'm assuming I have to move specific ones?

Let's see...

1. I downloaded the game from Abandonia.
2. Extracted the zip-archive in my DOSBox C-drive.
3. Renamed the game folder to MEEN (because original name is longer than 8 characters and contains spaces).
4. Tried to start the game with meen.bat -> the game tells me to run install first.
5. I run install.exe and setup sound&music (Sound Blaster 16 -> autodetect).
6. Tried meen.bat again and the game starts, with music and sound effects.
7. After exiting the game there's a new folder called meendata in my DOSBox C-drive.

You must have messed up something. I suggest you start from scratch: re-download the game and do what I did to get the game running.

Except for a few details, that's essentially what I did... The main difference is that INSTALL.exe doesn't seem to work quite right. It says "Initializing, please wait..." and then closes.
I started from scratch and after fiddling around a bit I've gotten two results- if the game folder is C, MEENDATA appears there after running the install, but the game only shows a blank screen. If the folder above that (where I keep all my DOS games) is C, MEENDATA is in there and the games runs, but I get no sound again.

I'm using D-Fend Reloaded, so usually the length of the folder name isn't an issue ("folder name" comes out as "FOLDER~1" usually), so I'm not sure if that's a problem or not.

Ugh.

Try running the game in DOSBox without any frontends.

I guess... I wasn't sure what difference it would make since I'd be doing the exact same thing except that I'd be typing it, but somehow or another the sound config runs that way.
I mean, I've got at least a couple dozen games that all run perfectly with D-Fend. I can't imagine why this game would be any different.
Of course, it sounds like you know already, but you're just not telling me. :/

Actually, I would simply try it, tymime.

I seen too many exotic problems with DOSBox, so any tiny bit can be important.

I know, for example, games that works in VGA-mode only with the specific videocard set.

Games that works in "official" build, but stops to work in "unofficial" (and vice versa).

Games that works only if you have from 100 to 500 cycles in DOSBox.

Not mentioning specific sound/space/memory management settings.

(Of course, I have no idea, if it will work with DOSBox - or D-Fend - in your case. But you need to try!
