i've bought this game soon after it came out. The gfx, even being low-red are absolutely gorgeous and it's one of the most atmospheric rpgs ever. Even the game box is gorgeous.

Got the CD recently. What fool was I when I deleted this game off my hard drive years ago when I played Albion for the first time? Yes, it was very very foolish...

What a shame that modern games lack of such game world depth and style and this game have everything and much more. Memorable characters, story and very detailed alien world, a perfect blend between fantasy elements and science fiction. It goes serious without adding "dark bloody atmosphere" which is widely used nowadays whenever a game is trying to "look like serious". It's a whole new world to discover. Also unlike modern games Albion makes you patient, makes you to think and finally to read what other characters say, often you are rewarded (you may get some items for free just by asking specific topic the character may like to talk about) for that. This game will remain in my collection forever and have special place in my heart for many reasons. I bet if Albion wasn't a game it would have become one of the best sci-fi books, infact I wish there was one.

p.s. I'm so happy that this game doesn't fall down into the kiddish anime, especially with Iskai (cat-like alien race). Now I'm not really against anime, but quite frankly I'm tired of seeing all those cliche sort of "kids save the world" and so on... anyway, that's offtopic so I'm off with it.

p.p.s. sorry for my bad english, I just registered to say how I love this game, that's it.

Treewyrm, your English is better than plenty I've seen on the net. I recall years ago when I saw a boxed copy of Albion at a computer store but didn't have the nerve to ask my parents for it, but I'm glad I have it now.

Many of you have mentioned cheat/trick to reach items in shops which you wouldn't normally be able to take. Well, funny thing that apparently developers knew about it so they have put very funny message when you try to steal sword in the weapons guild shop at the desert city (darn, I can't remember it's name, something-Umajo probably). Just try it and you'll see... I laughed so hard. Marvelous! If anybody wants I can make screenshot and post it here... :-)

I've tried getting this game to work over and over with no success, it's a shame because it looks good...i dunno maybe it's something i'm doing on my end.

I set it up as recommemed by one of the early posts on this thread, and it starts up with no problems....i can watch the intro, i have sound, it's a bit slow with a bit of chop in the sound.

Once i get past the movie, i get to the scene when the main character(?) talks about having his 'wierd dream again' as soon as i move i get a black screen and it goes back to desktop.

Very frustrating...

I'm using DosBox to play Albion due to the limit of my Windows XP x64 to run 16-bit applications such as Albion via VDMSound. DosBox requires lot more resources and tweaking done before you can try running the game. Another thing I must mention is that I'm using experimental build (daum cafe), avaliable to download from this site. Now you need to do some modifications in DosBox config file:

1. Set CPU type to "dynamic".
2. Set cycles to "auto" or 40000 (value highly depends on your actual CPU, e.g. the better you have the higher value you can set there).

I also like a bit blurred graphics to smooth pixels, this can be done by setting output to "opengl" and windowresolution to something like 800x600 or 1024x768. You can play around more with those values, I bet you'll find interesting results but as for me windowed mode with opengl works perfectly.

I think that's all. By the way I have original CD so I can't really tell how to run ripped versions without it, here I just simply mount my actual or virtual drive via "mount d e:/ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl" (where e:/ is path to your drive) and that's it! The game runs perfectly, everything is intact, including bugs and crashes this game have (yes, but fortunately they happen rarely, anyway save often). I hope that helps...

p.s. My CPU is AMD64 3200+, just saying it so the people would know at which system I play the game.

I love this game but there has always been one thing that I haven't been able to figure out:

Does anyone know what the Turquoise Music crystal is for? (the one you get the Kenget Kamulos place)

I know the Blue music crystal is to give to Argim (and he teaches you how to get the stat bonus)
I know the Red music crystal is given to the guy guarding the Oak tree in Gratogel and he gives you a crystal throwing axe

but I just cant find a use for the Turquoise one!!!

Can someone help???

Thanks

As much as I can remember colors of the crystals don't make a difference. For example, blue crystal can be used for Argim or the Celtic Guard. But I don't remember coming across a third crystal, I only remember two of them. It could be a subtitute for the others, I guess.

Well actually there is third, and like Matthew mentioned it's in Kenget Kamulos dungeons. However I too haven't figured out whom to give it. Perhaps there is someone in that savannah to the left of the cave which leads to Toronto, but I got tired running around there so I'm not sure if there is actually anything of interest.
