Hey. As much as I love this site and it's quality, I can't help but notice how dreadful the bootdisk really is.

There's absolutely no easy way for newbies to choose what memory manager to use. Imagine if someone gave a newbie the bootdisk and told them they need to play soccer kid without EMS...
Furthermore, many new computers seems to have problems with either EMM386 or QEEM386.

And the feature I find is lacking the most: Why is there no possibility of actually installing it on the HD, from the disk? Would make an awful lot easier if people want to fiddle with an old puter / install DOS on their own.

I know a lot of people could do a new, but noone has yet :P So I'm offering to do a new one. I won't do right now, as I'm in the middle of my exams, but in a week or so, I could possibly find a night to do it.

But before I do, I'd like to hear if people are using the bootdisk at all. Would you be interested in a better bootdisk?

Actually, I have never used the bootdisk myself - I managed to play everything I wanted using DOSBox or vdm. However, to my mind, it would be nice if You prepared 'a better bootdisk' - someone will surely make use of it...
Regards.

I use DOSMode shortcuts, so no need to have Boot disk.

Not sure if anyone uses it.

I reckon the bootdisk is useful only for WinXP users who are not able to install DOS (as in 1st partion is NTFS). DOS/XP dual users, and win9x/ME users wouldn't ever need a bootdisk, as they already have access to dos
