I assume you mean "maxrun.bat" but no changes I make to the file make any difference. Whenever I try to open maxrun.exe (using maxrun.bat) all that happens is the screen goes black and my speakers just make an occasional popping noise. my autoexec is:
mount C C:\DOS\CDrive -freesize 999
imgmount d c:\dos\iso\max.iso -t iso
C:
CLS

and I have max installed on a full install (installed w/ dosbox) to c:\intrplay\max (on my mount).
I used the setup.exe to change the sound settings to match DOSbox's.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, even if it's just a random list of guesses. Thanks for your help.

Ok, issue resolved, and anyone having trouble getting M.A.X. to work should just use the link I found. The site has a patch that fixes issues the game has with DOSBox, I just ran the patch as instructed and the game ran great.

Look, there's a very important reason we removed the download for this game.
The reason being that it's sold on GOG.com.
Under that circumstance, we can neither offer the game for download anymore, nor condone linking to any location that offers an illegal copy.

BTW, your patch can be hosted on Abandonia, if you'd like it to be.

Sorry, I did not know about that site. But having a closer look at it, isn't there something bugging you on GAG.com?

They "sell" the game as in they take $5.99 and allow you to "download a copy of the game" - See the big green "Download now" button? ...

Now that you surely realized the "download button" what do you think about the legality of the copy provided on that site?
Afaik, back in the days M.A.X. was only sold on CD and never was there a downloadable version.

Well, concerning that offer.. Thanks but my patch is still far from being complete - the multiplayer settings are still being tested. So I'll get back at you when I have compiled the final version.
