Hmm... It isn't hell at the school.
Depends on what you are trying to run under windows and in what resolution... gaming is out of the question [/b][/quote]
No, this cannot be. Now serious once again: how fast would Linux work if XP is :not_ok: ?

Are you allergic to 98? On that system configuration, 98 will work like somebody strapped turbo booster to it. Here it definitely does... (128 MB RAM, 400 Mhz CPU, 1,5 GB system partition)

Linux is fun to fool around with and to program with but not really handy for gaming, except dosbox, but it would run good on that system...

Well, you'd barely have any disk scpae left, games wouldn't run and it might crash if you put in a CD. But if that's not your worry, sure.

You'll probably need something faster. XP runs slow sometimes on mine, even with 1GB of RAM, P4 2.6Ghz and 28.6GB for system files.

At one point "My Computer" wouldn't even load.

LOL I'm not allergic to Windows 98, but many programs this days don't work on 98 anymore and i was starting to ask myself "what if I'll choose XP ?"

@Danny: Aww.

What exactly are you wanting to do with this machine? If you're wanting to run the latest and greatest software, it's simply not going to happen. I agree with Horseman; that sounds like a Win98 box to me.

Not the latest software. Just...eh, nevermind. I'll stick to 98 until the easter bunny will come to me

If you have windows 98 and installed the service pack to upgrade it to the SE, then I can't think of any games or programs that do not work on windows 98. If a new game (that I am not aware of) needs windows xp, then probably the game won't run anyway on that configuration.

@efthimios: I don't know if I've got win98SE. In C:\tools\ I can find a directory named win98se with a installer, but I don't know if it actually is installed.

@win98: I have to think about this first. *googles for minimum requirements*
