Almost... the proposal doesn't respect free will, let's offer people "suicide contracts" (with some compensation to them/their families) imstead. 0 0%
I support the proposal. And If the future needs it, I would report in to be killed. 0 0%
I support the proposal. The pink slip would be a mistake, so I would use the rest of my time to go from one institution to another, trying to prove it. 0 0%
I support the proposal. Now mind you the whole situation could never happen, but if I got the 'slip' I would immediately know it was going wrong and join some anti-utopian partisan group in the local woods/mountains. 5 22.73%

I think you are mistaken A1s. I was replying to Don Andy. And he said that as meaning that it would save the earth, or something significant.

Hmm, I agree there is a shift of balance here. The Earth is overpopulated... Well the natural selection is simple: when there's to much of a species in an invironment it either has to migrate, gets killed by predators, or dies of starvation.

We can't migrate to resolve our issue, there's no great predator to move in for the kill, because here on Earth we're the top of the food chain, so...

The thing is, that people are trying everything not to follow the nature's laws, because that would be their downfall, bu teventually it will happen. We'll just exshauste more then our fair share of natural resourts before it happens.

I think we'll colonize space before that, because as always when the space will be lacking, all of the economic resources will be focused on to further expansion (in space of course)...

Also the population of many developed countries is shrinking...

And begin to spread like a plague and waste another worlds like we do it with Earth? That's not the correct solution on a long term. First we would have to set clear rules of living on our planet and follow them, too. As it looks right now though such idea is the true utopia even.

I don't see what's wrong in colonizing other worlds. It's human nature and in a way also a question of preservation. Right now we all only exist on Earth, what if it would be destroyed by a natural desaster we can't stop? Like, for example, a big meteorite? Or worse, and more plausible, a small black hole coming our way?

Let's populate other star systems before deciding if we should rather straighten up this one, shall we?

I think we'll evolve with time, but that's just me...

(Star Trek anyone?)

Nope, we won't.

Evolution is basically adaption to your enviroment. If a turtle, that always ate food from the ground, and thus can not bend it's neck upwards is forced to eat plants that lie a bit higher (bushes or something) it will develop a "bendable" neck over time (if it not dies on starvation before that happens, but you get my point.)

The problem with humans is: We don't adapt to our enviroment, we adapt the enviroment to ourselves. If there will be any evolution, then backwards.

Oh, and just a side note: Star Trek rocks

I think we can evolve with our minds, at least supress some animal instincts that we have...

A world where billions are killed and strict limits are forced on the survivors freedoms is not a utopia.

Risking to go a little too far off topic, I would like to express a contradiction. Leaving to colonize other worlds while we're polluting our world, leading even today meaningless wars the finances for which could be given out for much more meaningful and important things, and one half of the world lives for material values and doesn't care about the other half of the world where people are dying of starvation? Wouldn't that look rather like fleeing our home planet like cowards after have ruined it than victorious conquer of the galaxy? If people won't learn how to live correctly on their own home world, they won't learn it either somewhere else. And the chances that we successfully will be able to even find a liveable world somewhere far away in our gigantic galaxy, not talking about being able to do such a far journey with our limited science level and the limits of the colossal space and time, the chances are non-existent.
It is far more realistic to first get grip of ordered life on Earth before even thinking on colonizing other worlds, dreaming about wandering among the stars while our planet is being wasted and slowly turned unliveable is careless and foolish.
