I just downloaded the CD version from the iso cellar but the game keeps hanging, while I'm still on the ship my characters mouth is moving but no text or sound comes out and the game won't respond, I'm using win98 and I've tried it with both characters and have subtitles on

Did you try running it under pure DOS or with DOSBox?

No, I'm on a fairly slow pc and DosBox doesn't run, I can try it in pure dos mode though will report back on progress

Try doing so. I know from my experience that such freezes are a common problem when trying to run DOS games in Win 9x.

Well I have a problem with running it in pure dos mode as I don't have a cd driver for dos, I generaly use a startup disk made on my XP machine to boot into dos on my 98 machine and it usualy works great and has sound but it doesn't have a cd driver on it, I tried using the Abandonia startup disk but it didn't either. I know the Win98 one does but it doesn't give me enough memory to run it.

you can try keep pressing F8 on startup, there should be something like "start msdos with cd rom support"
