If you people like NetHack, by all means, you should try Slash'EM (which, IIRC, stands for Super Lots of Added Stuff Hack Extended Magic)!! It's an upgraded version of NetHack built on two of its variants, Slash and Nethack Extended Magic and, trust me, it's even better! You have new races, like the Vampire, the Doppleganger or the Werewolf, and new classes like the Yeoman or the Fire Mage. It has more items, artifacts, spells, special levels, special monsters, events and strange things to do, it has special techniques that your character can learn like going berserk or disarming an opponent. And... it's still supported, with a new version coming out about once in 2-3 months, which is great!

As an added bonus, to please everyone, it has the old ASCII graphics, but also three sets of graphic tiles (for those who prefer those) which are: the NetHack tiles, big better looking tiles and big isometric even better looking tiles.

So, what are you waiting for? Since I've found this game, I have never touched any other Rogue-like in existence.

Oh yeah, it has special shopkeeper services too (which you can acces by using the pay command when you don't owe the shopkeeper anything), which lets you identify, uncurse, enchant and charge your objects for a fee. Be careful though, if you have a low charisma (and we're talking about quite low here, like under 8), the shopkeeper might try to just steal your money and not do a thing on your stuff.

Just thought I would mention it, because I think it's really a great thing that you don't have to wait until you find this blessed scroll of identify to find out what all your gems are, and now, money is even more useful!

THIS GAME IS INSANE! I LOVE IT! The first time I died, it was from trying to ride a pony, I kid you not.

Haha, from riding a pony! :roflol:
I just downloaded the game but seem to not be able to find an exit from the short starting room, although I searched all the walls up without any success. Any ideas? It can't be that there's no exit from there, that would be pretty ridiculous, just started and stuck already...

You have to search more than once, espically if you aren't a rogue. Sometimes you have to search 20 times or more (I just hold down the button for a second, if there's nothing dangerous around) for the secret door/space to pop up.

What about, let's say, a REAL RPG MMO, or at least anything nearer to a 'true freedom of action', with respect to the current MMORPG fans ? Too hard to develop ? Not such a worthwhile effort allying graphical resources + roguelike gaming depth, at least for the sake of making a game as popular as it deserves to be ?

Cheers u all.
If such RPG would come out, it would probably be the most famous RPG ever made. But you will nowhere find anyone who will take on developing such game. It would take many years of work, and no company has so much money for it, and if it has, then no interest or ability to imagine. [/b][/quote]

A text-based multiplayer game? Read your own quote above.
