I remember spending many a day playing this game. One of the fun concepts I use to run would be Americans on defense against the Russians. A platoon of M1A1 tanks would slaughter the veritable horde of Russian tanks the computer would always take. This game had a very satifying way of maintaining suspense when your tanks shoot their tanks. You will hear a sound as the round hits, and you wait a split second and hope you hear the explosion. It gets incredibly intense when you are locked into a tanker battle. All in all, check it out. Scenario diversity will keep you occupied for hours.

Smile Love it!!

I used to spend countless hours placing this game. Back in the mid 90's I created dozens of scenarios and hosted them on a site called The Wolf's Lair. I also hosted scenarios written by other people. Ahhhhh....thems were the days!!

look on the privileges of the directory where the game is located and uncheck "read-only"

also, if you're running windows vista or higher you will need to have the stuff located in your documents directory, as applications can't normally write elsewhere

I just tried it myself, works in both Scenario and Campaign.

well, the read only is the problem. maybe you didn't set the rights recursively? (for all the subdirectories inside the directory)

I did, when unchecking 'read only' i get a popup asking should the read only apply to all files and subdirectories after chosing the option the mark disappears but when i reopen the properties window the 'read only' is checked.

Ive never had this kind of problems with other games

Maybe im doing something wrong with dosbox..
I use the following command line : mount c c:/games/Steel2 -t cdrom

no, you need to uncheck the read only... try unchecking some files one by one and see if the option stays on them
