DarkSeed 2 and VfW
I've bought a brand-new sealed copy of DarkSeed 2 a month ago.
I've finally installed Windoze 3.11 under DOSBox emulation and DarkSeed 2 runs as it should be. Although it refuses to play any AVI, giving the message "Cannot open AVI", thus no cut-scenes through the game. That's possible have something to do with the installed version of VfW probably right? The latest one I can find is the 1.1e version. Is there a newer one, or at least the same version that's no buggy at all (as it seems)? Also, I can watch the AVI files from DarkSeed 2 via the ancient MediaPlayer under Win3.11 without any problems. Secondly, I have installed SB16 drivers for sound and music, but it seems that the sound inside that game isn't 100% pure. What I mean. You can hear the music and sound effects normally, but when it comes for speech, it gives the impression that overrides the music at some point. I dunno, if that was normal back then. Any clues? Thanks in advance.

What version of DOSBox are you using, Phantom? If you're using the latest stable build (v0.74 as of 06/09/2011), then I'd highly recommend you use a development (dev) build. I've found this can help immensely - for example, 3-D Ultra Mini Golf will not run under Windows 3.11 using the latest stable, but it will run just fine, albeit slightly slower than under a non-emulated Windows environment, when using the latest dev build. You can either compile the latest dev build yourself (official instructions can be found on the DOSBox Wiki), or you can go to http://www.emucr.com/search/label/DOSBox and get a relatively new - and pre-compiled - dev build which lacks screenshot, video recording, and IPX support.
However, beyond that, I can't help you since I don't have a copy of Windows 3.11 I can install in DOSBox. Hope what little advice I gave you helps, Phantom!

Maybe you should also install WinG and the win32s updates.
IIRC WinG is the predecessor of DirectX and can be found on AB's Programs page. For the win32s Google must help you.
